Craftsman 33gal Vertical air compressor

I finally broke down this last weekend and bought the compressor after I had looked at it for over a year. An additional 10% off and 0% interest did me in.

The compressor builds air pretty fast, it is the oil less type. The wheels were loose as I think they all are, and several of the fittings leaked air until I took them out and re-sealed them. And I broke the quick connect off as I tried to unload it by myself. The foam they use to cushion the handle is cheesy and was quickyl covered with grip tape.

The biggest thing I noticed is that this thing is FREAKIN LOUD!

I've had a Sanborn 2.5gal oil less compressor for about 17 years now and though it was a little noisy, but it doesn't compare to the Craftsman.

I am looking for some way to quiet it down, if anyone has a suggestion please share it. I am considering putting it in a small shed outside but would still want to quiet it down so I don't annoy the neighbors.

So my review is, price ok, quality ok, assembly fair, noise,,,,HORRIBLE.

All those oilless units are noisy, but they do get the job done just fine. I couldn't take it though, as my wife wouldn't let me use it when the kids were sleeping. So, I sold it in and instead bought an oil pump model. So much quieter! In fact, I moved it into the basement from the garage and my wife can't hear it running when she's right above it in the family room.

I got the Craftsman 150psi 30 gallon Professional one. I think it was $399 and I ended up paying something like $330. It was on sale for like $369 and then the Crafstman Club saved me another 10%. I've been very happy with it compared to the screamer, I mean, Oilless unit.

Interesting. I didn't know that was a problem with all the oiless ones. I wonder why they are more noisy than the oil type. It does work OK for what I have used but at some time would like to get a dual stage (probably) IR one.
