Factory Spare Tire Lock

Im looking at a new 05 GMC 1500 and it does not have the spare tire lock from the factory. I was going to contact a friend of mine who is a parts manager at another dealer to see if he can get me one at his cost if I get this truck. I know it is keyed the same as the truck, so is it possible to send GM the VIN and recieve a keyed alike lock? I would like to have this feature because I know tailgates are a hot item here and I would feel better with my spare locked also. And while I mentioned tailgates, what is a good lock to protect my tailgate from theft?

I'd like to add one too, but GMPartsdirect.com says they're not available. I know they have to be available if you know how to order the part....

Has anyone figured this out? I don't mind getting it re-keyed.

Part number in Canada is 12472979.....comes with key, but you could probably have it rekeyed to your truck

Wow someone was digging deep to find this...I forgot all about it. Well I never found a part number and I even had my buddy at a dealer call around for it and no luck. So I live without it, and now my dads 06 doesnt have one either. But really the only thing im worried about under there is the wheel, i hate the Bridgestones on both trucks....but thats a whole other topic.

Sorry to hear you didn't find it. I guess you could always use a cable around the frame with a padlock, but that's sort of a PITA.
