I am having a problem with my search feature

In a few days I am replacing my muffler with a magnaflow one...what is louder, a smaller muffler or a larger muffler (considering the pipe size is the same)

Smaller is louder (generally). I tried an 18" magnaflow on my Avalanche about 3 months back....Wanna buy it??? Seriously, it sounded awesome but too loud at highway speeds. It was the 3" in / dual 3" outs (which I "y'ed" to a single 3" tailpipe).

I now have the 3" in / 3" out 24" long magnaflow. Great expect for a little drone right at 65-73 mph (grrrrr). Anyway good luck with what you get!

i dont think it matters how small or big it is some vehicles will generaly take a smaller muffler due to clarence problems but you would think that the smaller muffler cant have as much packing or baffels. if you want something loud see if they have a straight trought muffler or a glass pack sort of thing

Magnaflows are are straight through, packed designs. The smaller lengths will generally be alot louder. I guess they'll all fit nomatter what since the larger sizes are still smaller than the stock muffler.

I've got a 14 x 4 x 9 magnaflow on my truck and it's pretty quiet when cruising. At WOT, it's pretty loud but sounds freaking awesome...like a corvette on steroids. As well, having turndowns or a side exit before the rear tire will increase noise and resonance. The quietest solution is to maintain the full length of tailpipe and mid pipe.

I dont have magnaflow so i dont knwo what yall mean by size cause only one size fit my silverado when i replaced mine and i repalced it with a flowmaster which i believe is a better muffler than magnaflow but thats my opinion. i have 3 1/2in tips and i got a nice sound comin out of my 5.7 v-8.

By size, we mean either the muffler size or the pipe size. For mufflers, the size really doesn't matter...it merely changes the amount of pipe to be removed or added. Pipe size is important though. The stock pipes on a 5.3L (well, on mine) are around 2.75" +/_ 0.15" while the nearest aftermarket inlet/outlet sizes on the mufflers are 2.5" and 3.0".

Which flowmaster series muffler did you put on your truck?
