2500HD issues

Let's see.... I have a 2004 2500HD 4X4 with less than 19K.

So far:

1) The transmission slips once in a while, has been like this since nearly new. I brought it to the dealer twice and was told "could not duplicate symptom".

2)The a/c broke in the middle of a heat wave. Dealer fixed it under warranty - 3 days in the shop waiting for a part (clutch fan).

3)Passenger side armrest creaks when a passenger carelessly rests his/her arm on it.

4)Seat padding makes "crunching" sounds when anyone actually moves around in their seats.

5)Unusual tire wear on front tires. I paid dealer to rotate and was recommended to perform an alignment.

6)There is a strange clicking and clunking sound coming from the front end when making low speed turns and driving over bumps on the road . I've never plowed with it before. I've had no time to bring it in to dealer again as I bought this truck for work.

7) 3 of the 4 circular covers on bedliner (behind which hooks are for strapping down cargo) have come off. 2 of them since the first week of ownership.

Is this considered normal for a 1 year old heady duty P/U truck???

I wouldn't consider it normal, definitely not. I have an 01 that has been perfect from day one. I know plenty of trucks have little things that need to be worked out, but sounds like you've got way more than normal. The trans is one thing I'd demand to have looked at again. You didn't mention it, Ally or 4l80e? You've got a bumper to bumper warranty, don't be shy about taking it in and demanding a rental. I never needed it with the truck I have now, but my old truck (Dodge) needed to be taken in to the dealer all the time. I left with a rental truck everytime. They gave me a fight the first couple of times. Unfortunately, they started seeing me so often that there wasn't a fight any longer. The girl at the desk would pick up the phone and call down for a rental as soon as I walked in the door. I appreciated the CS, but couldn't stand that I had to visit the dealer once a month for service.

I hated that truck. Hopefully you get your issues worked out and don't end up hating your truck too.

Sorry to hear your having troubles, but things you might want to have checked:

1) My truck the transmission started to slip in the middle of winter (which is the middle of plow season) turned out the transmission was low of fluid... I guess these trucks are hard to check the levels on you have to go through a certain procedure to get it up to temperature.

2) The clunk at low speeds is most likely the intermediate steering shaft problem that is well documented and I believe there is a replacement part out for it.

3) The covers on the bedliner holes... I guess this is a personal thing... I threw mine away and never thought about them again...

    • The oil filter has NOTHING To do with oil leak. GM sources parts from 1,000's of vendors and as with anything mass produced, flaws are unavoidable.    Putting a larger oil filter will do nothing but satisfy emotions. The OEM filter is designed for the engine and perfectly capable of handling the demands on the engine. Oversize oil filter could result in reduced flow and overall lower oil pressure.
    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
