Not to beat a dead horse...

I have Gibson catback. If I remember right, it is a dual sport, side exit. I like the sounds when cruising around town at low speeds, has a nice rumble to it that lets everyone know you are there. Going through at tunnel or underpass, on a freeway, you can here the exhaust a lot at 55+ with the windows up. It sounds sweet, I have had friends following say they went from not hearing my exhaust to going, "WTH?"

I didn't notice much of a performance change though, now a days stock mufflers are really nice. At highway speeds, 65-80, it has quite a bit of cab resonance though. I just did a Co --> CA trip and back in it and I drove 85+ just to get above the resonance a lot of the time. If you drive the freeway every day, it might start to drive you nuts.

So if you don't want something rather loud, it is not for you.

I had a 50 series Flowmaster put on in place of my stock muffler. This is a fairly loud set up because the 6 liter is a tough engine to keep quiet due to the head design from my understanding. My main reason for going this route was that I didn't see any reason to lose the stock stainless pipe because it's already a good diameter for flow and wouldn't be cheap to replace with a stainless cat back system. I also didn't care that I have just one pipe, didn't see a need for 2.

A friend of mine did the same thing with a Magnaflow. Not as loud as mine but sounds really goodat idle and under acceleration. You will probably get some in cab resonation regardless of which way you go but the Flowmasters seem to generate more.

should have explained my needs/wants.. i love loud that sounds "good"

last systems have been flowmasters.. 00 f150 (i know i know) didnt really seem loud, but before that was on a 5L mustang that also had offroad H pipes with no converter (i know its a ford!!!! but d**n it sounded good..) I called flowmaster, the tech came right out and said that the system for my truck doesnt sound good.. that was enough for me to hear..

my point ----- > im really stuck between magnaflow and gibsons..

Well, mine has a "yes this is a V8" sound that older cars/trucks had. I was very happy with the install, I did it myself and am not too mechanically inclined. Did it on my back on the driveway, hardest part was taking out the old exhaust, cutting and weaving it out. I had to use a jack to increase the gap between the frame/bed and the axle.

I just added a Magnaflow muffler and had the shop bend me a new tailpipe. I know I went with a 30" long, round muffler, and I believe it was this one:

Somebody on here reccomended it, and it sounded weird at the time to take and put two 2.5" pipes into one 3" inlet muffler and replace the 4" stock tailpipe with a single 3". But WOW! I couldn't have asked for any more. I have absolutely no resonance at all at any speed. The only time I can hear the exhaust is when I'm accelerating from a stop, or when I have the windows down and I'm on the gas. Once I maintain speed with the windows down, I can't hear it. Outside it sounds deep and has a great tone. It first sounded a bit too quiet, but now it's awesome since it's broken in. A buddy was at a store that I passed once and he said he heard me coming and had to look up to see what it was. I was a good bit away too.

I installed the Flowmaster 50 series that is just for the 6.0 liter(don't know the # off hand, but can get it if need be). I got to tell you that I was not very happy at first, but after "blowing it out" for a 2 thousand miles I am very happy with the tone. And I also could not see the sense of taking off the dual stainless pipes from the cat-back. The Flowmaster I got was an exact fit that bolted/welded right in place useing stock pipes on either side. Granted on the tail pipe side it took a little torching to heat up my original tailpipe, but not much and everything went right back into place. Mine is dual 3 1/2 and dual 3 1/2 out(I think). Hope this helps and might save you a few bucks, also!
