I have not driven the H3, but I had an '03 Envoy SLT with the I-6. I felt that truck was underpowered. My '05 has the 5.3L V-8, an option I feel should have been available from day one. If you like any kind of power I don't think you will be satisfied with the I-5. JMHO

The I5s are plenty of power in the Colorado/Canyons, but the H3's curbweight is going to hamper any signs of performance. It more than makes up for it in offroad performance, but don't expect much more than a 10 second jaunt to 60.

I highly doubt you will see a turbo offered in a I5. You will see the numbers get bumped up on the I5 next year. And there is a persistent RUMOR that their will be a V8 option in a year as well. Whether this is true or not only time will tell.

Also the H3's have higher gears to help acceleration with their additional weight and bigger tires. (4.10's for 5spd, 4.56's for Auto)

Dooode, I guess it's all perspective. I had a loaner Canyon for a few days. Around town, it felt pretty decent, a little zippy.

On the highway- good gawd, what a dog :D Maybe it's just Houston's 80mph speeds, but I'd have to floor it to pass, and even then, it was weak.

I can only imagine in the H3, it'd be even worse. But, for offroading, get the adventurer package (or whatever it's called) and get the 4:1 t/case. No power issues then

I'm really digging the H3, but I wouldn't even consider it with the I5

i was wondering about that too.... i've got the i5 in my colorado and the i6 in my trailblazer and i would think the i5 would be a bit underpowered in it since it weighs more.

although, i never thought the i6 was underpowered in the trailblazer, it sure seems to accelerate better than the colorado, but it's just not as comfortable for me to drive for some reason, also the handling feels sloppy.... but enough sidetracking. I think they might just throw a supercharger on it, but it would ne nice to see a small turbo diesel in it.

Your best bet would be to take one for a test drive. I can tell you from experience that the H3 feels a little underpowered on the expressway. So, if that is important to you, you may want to wait for an engine option with more zip.

I've had my H3 for almost a month now and love it. There is a slite lack of power when it comes to acceleration, but it's not a race truck by any means. Talking to the sales man, he said there wasn't any mention of a bigger engine for the H3 that he's heard of. I think the 5.3L would be a perfect fit for the platform.
