Watcha bench?

So, I was at the gym today and was watching the 2 resident meatheads grunting and what not as they went through their routine. I couldn't help but notice the resemblance to a SNL skit years ago with Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, and I think Patrick Sawyze. Anyway, the skit was these huge guys with toothbick legs hosting a call in show called "Watch Bench?" These 2 guys, well actually only 1, reminded me of that skit. One guys is about 5'6"ish and beefy as all he!!, not cut, just beefy. His buddy is an older guys, taller, not as beefy, but walks around like he is. But, they both have these twigs for legs.

I was just wondering if anyone else here is a self professed "gym rat" like myself? I try to get to the gym about 5 days a week, minimum 3, but I've finally gotten my bench up to 345 as of last Friday. Oh, I'm 6'1, 275# as of this morning, 20% bodyfat, if that matters to anyone. I'm not cut up yet, but plan to be within 6 months. It took a while to put the fat on, so it's gonna take a while to take it off. 1 pound at a time. SOOOO, WATCHA BENCH (or any other exercise yer proud of)?

I remember those SNL skits  I tried the gym thing last year to get back in shape and needless to say after a few months of going I decided cancel my membership because it is easier being seriously slim and lazy.

YOU ARE A GURLY MON! SO WE'RE HERE TO PUMP....YOU UP!

I quit lifting heavily about 7 years ago because it was tearing me apart. Really hard on your joints. My elbows and knees will never be the same. I even tore some tendons on the preacher-curl machine that never healed properly.

I hit 345 on the bench when I was 25. I'm about 5'10", and was about 220 lbs at 10% BF at the time. I'm now at about 200 lbs, and I doubt if I could bench 225...But I'm in much better shape.

No, that's the military press...But only if you're holding the keg over your head, instead of doing an olympic gymnastic feat and hop on the thing upside-down.

I used to work out at the gym until it closed. I really need to work out. My beer gut seems to keep growing while the rest of me doesn't! I enjoyed working out and I felt better than ever. When I did, I was not fat free, but somewhat slim. Now I am 30 lbs heavier and it is all beer and steak!!

I can probably do about 165 right now lol... my highest was 245 about 6 years ago, I plan on starting up again this Fall though and use my new gym I bought before I had my apendix taken out.

I'm 6'2 and have long ass monkey arms, so benching is not one of my favorite things to do.

I remember those days. My prime was back when I was 21. I started to powerlift in high school. Didn't do too bad. I competed in the 165lbs, 181lbs and 198lbs class. My best bench was a 325lb. I still have the issue of Powerlifting USA that it was in. I was 198lbs back then. I could press 350lbs but of course that was with a little bounce off the chest. It all ended not to long after that meet when I tore my peck and bicep. Being in the Air Force the AF Doc's didn't think it was bad enough to go in and reattach. I got some strength back but not 100%. The best I have ever got back up to is 300lbs back in 2000 while I was stationed in Korea. Not much else to do over there for a year but go to the gym. I also went from 230lbs body weight back down to 198lbs with 15% body fat. Now I'm just a big dough boy. Knees are spent from all the squats and deadlifts. I'm 6' tall and around 212lbs and this new fitness program the Air Force started is really making my knees act up with all the running I have been doing. Getting old sucks! I personnaly liked the deadlift the best. Probably because that was my best out of the three. :D

Now I just rub a little 0w-30 AMSOIL on the knees before I go run, works great! JUST KIDDING!

I can only bench 105lbs. My leg press is about the best at 315lbs and my squat is 185lbs. Cable crunchs are 205lbs and deadlift is at 155lbs. If it matters I'm 20 y/o 6ft and 155lbs(use to wieght 300lbs when I graduated HS 2 years ago)

Just because you posted this, I tried benching for max this morning for the first time in a long time...made 245 twice, but couldn't get the 260. At 47 yeears old, I guess I'm doing okay...

Article in the morning paper about some sophomore on the Nebraska footbal team that can bench 545...what a monster...

Max bench 380 lbs. Raw(no bench shirt).

5'10" 205 lbs.

Hurt my shoulder after lifting heavy for years, now just do reps with 315 or so. :sigh:

ctfan - Dood! Congratulations on the weight loss, that's amazing. How did you do it? just diet & exercise?

Oh, and I'm not trying to get anyone hurt, so be careful when yer doing this stuff y'all. That's why most of my workouts are with dumbells, since I usually go to the gym by myself. Trying to find a workout partner is just too difficult and frustrating if they aren't at the same motiviation level, etc. Good luck, lift smart :sigh:

Ahhh, all this talk makes me wanna go back to the gym!!!

I've never been too stout in my upper body, but, my skinny chicken legs were always stout. I'm 5'11", 170lbs, and could only bench about 235lbs when I was at my max. But, I could always hop on the leg press and push 675lb-700lb about 12 reps. Don't know how I did it, but, it does explain my right knee going out on me lately :sigh:

Thinking about just getting a bowflex, and being nicer to my joints.

all time max was 385 when i weighed 212, then I suffered a shoulder injury (unrelated to my lifting), took some time off, started working more, got involved with a psycho girl, etc. well...I lost a bunch of muscle mass and have spent the past year getting back into it.

My weight is holding steady at 175, I do a couple reps with 315, so I bet my max is probably 330 right now (on a good day).

strongest exercise? - calf press on an incline leg press sled. I used to do 4 sets of 8 with 1040.
