Truck Will Not Stay Running!

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am new to the forum and hope to get some good information while I am here. I have a 92 Chevy Silverado 5.7L 2-Wheel Drive. The truck has about 140k on it and I have owned it since it had 58k. Never had a bit of problems at all until this past week.

Once the truck has been started (cold), the truck will start right up with no problems. The truck will not miss or anything and has complete power through out the power band. Once the truck has been warmed up (normally about 5 minutes or so) the truck will shutoff. No evident reason, just shut off. No smoke, no sounds, no knocks, no clicks, nothing. Just shut off. Once the truck is cold again (5-6 hours) then it will fire right back up. If you get in the truck and hold your foot to the floor and crank it, the truck will start but will shut off after about 2-4 seconds. Pumping the gas will not keep it running.

I have fuel spraying out of the TBI when it shuts off. I have spark from the coil at the plug and at the coil.

Here is what I have replaced:

-Cap/Rotor

-Ignition Module

-Plugs

-Wires

I have a fuel filter to install but like I said before it is still spraying gas when the truck shuts off.

I don't see any vacumm leaks or anything as well.

Any ideas would be GREAT! This is my work tow truck and I need to get this going since I am out of work till it runs!

Thank you for your help in Advance!

Check the MAP sensor vacuum hose for gas if so replace and use a scanner and check the coolant sensor (has yellow & black wires) it may be bad and causing rich mixtuer when hot. You may try starting truck and warming up then shutting it off and jumpering the yellow with black to fool it lean and try running it.

Look on the engine and there is a black tube from the intake vacuum fitting to a black module with 3 wires and the vac. hose if it hasent been replaced in 75000mi i suggest you do. The module was mounted mostly on the fire wall. but some were on the bracket on the intake passenger side.
