Hey all,

I currently have a 2001 2500HD that hopefully will sell in the next week or so. I have had my eye on its replacement. A 1999 NBS GMC Sierra SLT Z71 extended cab with a little over 100K on it. It's listed with a privte owner for $10,800/obo.

I figure i could ask you guys that have Chevy's also, so chime in.

I'm just wanting to know what specific things to ask regarding common problems on the 99's and what to look for other than the standard walk around, engine and underbody check.

I have read about the fuel sender/gauge problem, but the search kills me when it comes up with a bunch of recall posts to sift through...

I own a 99 NBS Chevy Z71. Only problems I've had with the thing is the water pump gasket and evap system. Finally replaced water pump gasket with a Fel-Pro and no more problem. The evap system malfunction was minor as well, replaced the purge solenoid. I have 150, 000 on it now and don't see why I should not be able to get that many more.

I've got a 99 GMC Sierra Std cab short box 2WD. I bought new and the only thing I've had to get fixed is the driver's side electric window motor and the regulator too I think. Been a reliable truck.

I have a 1999 Sierra NBS with 145,000 mi. Within this time I have replaced the U-joints, had a vent in the gas tank replaced, has a leaking front pinion seal which requires the front differential to be topped off at each oil change. I also have the possessed fuel gauge, and the 4X4 indicator lights work periodically. Also the odometer and RND321 lights go out frequently. Many of these problems are common with other GM's of this year. Hope this helps.

$10,800 sounds high for that truck.

I have 145K on my 2000 GMC Z71. Watch for the typical issues;

1. bad fuel sending unit

2. bad ABS module

3. Pre-mature wearing right rear rotor

4. Bad 4x4 push buttons

I'm sure I'm missing something. Keep in mind this is the first year with the most bugs and the lowest HP ratings of any of the NBS trucks.

My truck has been great. I'm on my third set of tires, 3rd set of brake pads and 2nd exhaust system. I replaced the 4x4 push buttons early this year and the fuel pump (last week)

Best truck I've owned yet and I had 4 OBS trucks :dupe:

I bought my 99 when it had 89,000 miles on it and now it has 140,000 miles on it. Since then I have had these problems......

1)sending unit/fuel pump (covered under extended warranty)

2)alternator (covered under ext. warranty)

3)encoder motor on the transfer case

4)water pump (covered under warranty)

5)parking brake is a constant problem

The only thing that comes to mind that I don't care for about the truck is the fact that it only has three doors instead of four, I don't care for the piston slap, nor the rear end clunk.

Hey GMCJOE you need to get some new pics of your truck on your website.... didn't you change some things on the exterior, grille etc??

thanks for the replies guys. I'll have to take a good look at the problems and go over it with the owner(s) if i decide to go this route.

so you think that $10K is too much for a 5.3 4x4 1500 GMC SLT? here is was thinking that was a good price from what i have seen...

I think that price seems decent. I bought mine last December for $14,500 I think. 99 SLT Z71 ex-cab 80,000mi. The place I bought it from had just replace the fuel sender, and i had to replace the drivers pwr window assembly about 6 months after I got it, the 4x4 makes a noise I don't like and I need to get it checked out still. I still haven't figured out the factory accessory alarm on it-no manual. My aunt bought one about a month later, same truck just not Z71 (it looks like it just came off the showroom floor) and hasn't had any problems with it.

Hey,

All I've done that isn't on my page is I went back to chrome mirror covers, ditched the carbon fiber altezzas for some 2003 tails, my duals exit like a GN and added the 2005 Z72 emblems :chevy:

The color matched GMC emblem is on there as well.
