Because of a health problem, my 2001 Sierra 2500HD

8.1/allison, hadn't been started for about 3 weeks. I had

an appointment this morning. The truck started fine but would not move!

I put it in R and nothing happened, same in all gears. I let

the truck run for about 10 min. but still nothing. The

Service Engine Soon was on too. I called the dealer and called

for a rollback. Went on to my appointment, when the rollback came

my wife told him what had happened and of course the truck worked fine!

Except the SES light was still on. Went on to dealer, they cleared the code

and ordered some springs and stuff and said it would take 3 days to fix!

All of this to say, WHAT THE DEVIL HAPPENED?? They had a bulletin on this.

Can you tell me anything more?

I know about one problem like yours. Couldn't say if it's what they're talking about, but the one I know doesn't have anything to do with "springs" and such.

 

Here's one issue. Should only take an hour to fix if the parts are on hand.

Condition

Some customers may comment on one or more of the following conditions.

 

• The PRNDL display is flashing.

 

• The engine will not start.

 

• The "Service Engine Soon" Indicator lamp is illuminated.

 

• The transmission does not shift properly.

 

• The vehicle will not move, transmission will not engage.

 

Cause

Moisture contamination within the Park Neutral Position (PNP) Switch may cause this condition. This is sometimes referred to as the Neutral Start Back-up (NSBU) Switch. On a left turn, water spray from the left front tire is directed directly at this switch. Proper installation of the "Front Shield" and "Rear Shield" are essential for proper repairs.

I had a similar occurrence with my 2001 8.1/Ally after it was parked in the garage for nearly a month. After letting it run in Park for awhile, it was fine and never acted up again. Although it may sit for a weeks at a time (my weekend hauler), I never experienced this problem again; but, I haven't had it sitting for a month as it was back then. Don't know if its a 'letting it sit too long without running' problem or not. Please note my experience is limited to the 17,000 miles that's on the truck right now.

so long was the problem. My truck has only 13600 miles on it.

I'm not going to let it sit that long anymore!

This is the only problem I have had out of the truck.
