How to crank up front

How exactly does one crank the front suspension up with the tosion bars? ive read that theres a bolt to turn six times but wheres the bolt? and what about ford keys? am i supposed to install them?

The bolt is located on the crossmember the bars attach to, if you follow the torsion bar back from the control arm to the end you will see the bolt, it is the only one hanging down in that area. As far as number of turns, If I recall correctly approximately 1 turn equals 1/4" of height adjustment. Ford key replace the original torsion bar keys allowing for more lift. The factories were sufficient for mine. I can turn the bolts enough to put the front end higher than the rear.

Follow the front torsion bars back along the frame rails. They will stop at a frame crossmember near the rear of the cab. You will see the bolts there...

 

Make sure you turn them both the same amount of turns, or take measurements from your frame rails to the ground in several places side to side and then you can raise and level the truck accordingly.

 

(If you do the measurment thing make sure the truck is on level ground and the wheels are straight.)

 

After a few days re-check it and make sure it l;ooks OK...

you may want to record how many turns you made to each side so you can put it back where it was incase you dont like the ride quality

so am i turning clockwise or counterclockwise? im trying to squeeze 285/75s in the front wells. will this be enough lift to steer w/o rub?

285's will fit without cranking. I cranked mine about 3 or 4 turns, but it made the ride really harsh, and i ended up putting them back down after a while...
