Last Tuesday, I took a 480 mile drive, mostly on 65 mph roads. I kept it at 65 the whole way and kept the RPMs at 2000 or lower. When I was on the interstate, I drove 70 mph when it wasn't congested and didn't cause a mass slowdown (no flame wars, please).

Well, I usually get no more than 20 mph going 80 in the 75 mph. Driving gently this way got me 23.46 when I filled it up with a quarter tank left.

For what it's worth. :fume:

I am not flaming at all and I am glad you are getting better milage, but my time is more prescious to me than a couple bucks at the pump. I don't drive like an idiot, but I do get to where I want to go. I get 12-13 around here and 16 on the interstate. If I were to drive 65 on the interstate instead of 75-80, I am sure I would do a lot better too, but I do like to get there sooner.

Gotta kinda agree there, ever notice when your late you don't give a crap what your mileage is.

yea I dunno, I kinda feel both sides. 94' 4.3L, 4L60-E. I am elated if I get around 16 mpg in town and 21 on the hwy. I usually make it a point to leave a little early so that I can take it easy. I'm a college student, and I work part time so money isn't something I have a lot of.

I'd always said I'd wanted a 5.3 ex cab for my next truck, but I think I'll be looking for another single cab with the 4.8. Small V8 gives me a lot more power, but still good gas mileage. Any 4.8L ex cab owners out there?

Yeah, the way i see it, on road trips, people will either get obsessed with a.)mileage, or b.)timing. Im the latter. I start getting crazy. Ill run into the gas station and yell "Give me $50 on number 5 bitch! NOW!" and run out, and yes, Im one of those who holds the handle because it will flow just a little faster than just putting the little lever to prop it up. I'll pee in bottles, I pass on the shoulder, I do 70 through tolls (its the prepaid kind with the transponder that goes in your car, the speed limit is 25).

Alright, i exaggerated that a little bit, but you get idea. My last trip I think i averaged 81.6mph. Including all my stops and traffic getting out of South Florida. I dont really drive dangerously. The road I took cost $20 in tolls each way so people wont go less than 90mph. The only thing slowing you down is the giant love bugs and horse flies in central florida.

The funny thing is that the speeding doesn't gain you all that much time. I have an 83 mile trip one way to work. If I speed (+10) in the 55 and 70 speed zones, I only gain an average of 6 or 7 minutes. I'm not concerned with fuel mileage and drive however the mood strikes me. A speeding ticket would definitely change my mood :flag:

It's not rocket science, friend - slowing down saves fuel. .

I am with you too bob1527, you gotta drive it like you stole it. Fuel milage doesnt concern me any more, i get 11-12 in town and 16 on the interstate, thats runnin 93 with a tuned PCM. I am 18, i have a job and a scholarship, i got nothin better to spend my money on than gas and mods.

Took a 340 mile trip last weekend in my wifes 03 Denali loaded and got 17.3 driving 65. Thats a 2mpg increase over the usual 75mph.

I just drive regardless of the speedometer. It's not that I am in a hurry (who wants to be at work any sooner than you have to be?), but I do tend to have a heavy foot. IMO, the only advantages to driving the speed limit is avoiding a speeding ticket (my V6 S10 single cab short bed truck got me a lot of them :( ). Now days, I tend to drive the limit and utilize the cruise control to keep me ticket free.
