Jumping a mini-van

So at the jobsite today, a guy drained his battery. I stayed behind to jump his van with my truck... Anywho, someone told me that I should shut my truck off before I hook the cables to his vehicle. Said it could fry my computer. I said he's full of it. Was I wrong? I've jumped quite a few vehicles and never a problem. I always leave mine running and let them charge for a few minutes before I have them turn it over. Should I be concerned? No I don't have dual batteries. Yes I got the plow prep package and towing too. Not sure if it makes a difference, but oh well. Thanks.

Done incorrectly, that is, reversing the polarity, can take out every module in the vehicle. Seen it more than once, fixed it and it cost the customer several thousand dollars for that moment of lack of concentration. Shutting the vehicle off in no way protects the modules.

Done properly, jump starting the vehicle is no problem.

This thread is not about what I was hoping it was going to be about.

Tell you what, I round up some "scraps" from the jobsite. You find me a mini-van and I'll start building a ramp. Landing pad optional. I bet I could even find a few volenteers! Where can I find 40+lbs of fireworks, and some NOS.... Give me time, and I'll give you a show!
