Installing Camper style mirrors ?

I just bought the extended camper type mirrors from the Dealer.

They are manual and will not use my electrical from the original mirrors.

I started to swap them tonite only to find there is no disconnect at the mirror and it looks like it connects right to the door controls.I pulled the door panel almost all the way off but couldnt get it past the lock lever in the middle of the door.

Anyway I really want this to be painless and be able to switch back to the original mirrors when my towing season is over.

Im thinking of splicing / cutting the wire near the mirror and using a small bullet type connector

so I can do the quick change when I need too.....just plug and unplug sounds too easy ?

Anyone have any better ideas ?? or comments ??

I SWAPPED THE MIRRORS ON MY GMC-- WENT FINE-- NO ELECTRICAL THOUGH-- I WOULD DO JUST WHAT YOU SAID-- JUST PROTECT THEM IS SUCH A FASHION THAT THEY DON'T SHORT WHEN YOU PUT THE NEW MIRRORS ON.

It is not that hard to remove the inner door panel. Is should take you like 5 minutes to remove the panel. I thing I will tell you is there is a screw holding the panel on the bottom so don't forget out that one( I did and broke that screw mount when I yanked on it. not apparent from the outside, but I know it is broken...

Great Dane...any snags when you swapped your electric mirrors for the towing mirrors? I'm thinking of doing just the opposite (from towing mirrors to conventional). Even though I don't have the electrical control, would I have any problems? Any modifications I'd have to make? Thanks.

There are 3 nuts holding on each Mirror, should take you about 5 minutes per side.

Just remove the triangle cover above the door panel by pulling from the top, it is just clipped in.

Loosen the nuts.......dont drop them into the Door slide the mirror off and put the new one's in.

I opened my window so I could get a good hold onto the mirror.

You dont need to do anything else unless you want to add the power too them.

So you dont like the tow mirrors ?

I have had mine on for a week and I cant believe how much more I can see with them.

I may never switch back to the originals.

Aesthetically, I like the conventional mirrors better. I don't tow very often but could certainly put the tow mirrors back on if I needed to. Just a thought for now...still paying Christmas bills!

So where is the actual electrical connector for the power mirrors located at?. I want to swap my power mirrors to ones with intergrated turn signals. Now, my truck is an '03, so is it down in the door, or right behind the mirror?

Found them, they are under the power door locks and windows controler. I spent about 20 minutes looking for the 3rd screw to finally get the pannel off. It was behind the door lock slider, which just pops out so you can get to the screw.

Your good.....I couldnt find that one, almost forced it but decided not too...good thing!

Im really surprised that they couldnt put a plug up near the Mirror, what were they thinking ?

Dealer's have to change them all the time,why not make it easy !!

I ended up putting in my own connectors at the mirror, I really hate taking the door apart !
