K1500 HD Suspension?

Recommended Posts

I had my new K1500 optioned with the 'HD Suspension' package, but can't find any details about what this includes.  Bigger torsion bars?  Stiffer rear springs?

Torsion bar stickers are YH if that helps.

Hmm a HD with YH bars doesnt seem very HD.

The heavy duty suspension (option code Z85) definatly gives a bigger diameter shock pistin (but not as big as the Z71 shock).  The Z85 suspension is the minimum suspension required if you are going to tow.  It is basically the middle of the road between a stock Silverado, and a Z71.

Thanks for the part#s and specs!

Wow, that's kinda disappointing but definitely shows where improvement can happen.

I'll hit the dealer and crawl under a few trucks on the lot to see what bars come in various models, do a few short test drives to see how they ride, and make a decision on an upgrade.

GMpartsdirect.com shows bars are ~$105 each (ouch).

Here are some data points...I stopped by the dealer and checked the following '02 trucks on his lot:

K1500, regular suspension:   YH (I checked 2 trucks)

K1500, Z71 suspension:       YH (I checked 3 trucks)

K1500, HD suspension:        YH (mine)

I saw the retail prices for torsion bars on the website...even ouch-ier.  :0

Guess I got spoiled with coil springs on my Z28, Moogs and whatnot are $70 a pair.

I'm not positive on this, but if you can find one that has the snow plow prep package, it may have heavier rated t-bars.

We have some guys here with plows, an any of you post what bars you have?

Are the two letter codes on the torsion bars themselves?

There should be a white sticker with black letters on it wrapped around the bar itself.

Yes, they are on a sticker that is on the bar.  Mine are kind of hard to read now though.  They are also in the glove box.  They will be a code ending with the two letters.  Mine codes in the glove box are 6WY and 7WY.
