Autotrader.com or cars.com?

Just wanted to get some feedback from the group re: which of these automotive sites tend to get the best response for Sierra Denali's (or just which is considered the higher volume site, overall) as I am about to list my truck on one of them.

Any input?

Thanks,

I had my Suburban listed on Autotrader and eventually sold it via a contact from that site. It does take time though. Don't expect a quick sale. Both of those sites have zillions of other rigs like yours, mine and everyone elses.

One thing that I did get compliments on from those who called or e-mailed about my suburban was the fact that I had several good photos, was very detailed about my listing and was willing to e-mail any other photo that they would like to see.

There is tons of "competition" from dealers on those sites and they can offer financing, extended warranties, and the possibility of trading. You need to give them a reason to call you instead of the multitude of others and I think a very detailed add with pictures does that.

My suburban was listed for about 4 months and I had roughly 10-12 contacts on it, of those 3-4 were probly serious. Others were dealers trying to get me to lower my price $8k so they can buy it and re-sell it. Also, there were I feel a couple scammers too.

Best of luck and be smart when fielding e-mails and calls.

Thanks for the feedback -- I use both these sites just about equally when I'm looking for a vehicle but have yet to use either to sell one. One thing I did just notice as a potentially significant difference for my specific needs -- cars.com has a "key word" feature while autotrader does not (so you can't search for a "Denali" on autotrader). However, you can use autotrader's filter to seek out AWD drivetrains (as long as that term was used by the lister as opposed to just 4WD).

One other thing I like about cars.com is that they allow you to sort your results by distance, which just seems like a very logical parameter to include.

But, as I really want to know what the overall consensus is from GM truck guys/gals, I'm thinking I will just "keep score" to help determine which one I end up going with.

Thanks again,

Tim
