Can you help a newbie? Fog lamps

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I just bought a 2000 Yukon SLT and instantly fell in love with this truck it is awesome!

Anyway I noticed that the drives side fog lamp is out, I know I can run down to AutoZone and replace the bulb and boom I'm good to go but I'd like to think of this as an opportunity to upgrade. :D Can I just upgrade the bulbs to SilverStars or should I replace the whole thing with something else? Is there anything else that will fit in that hole?

What about new lenses, these look pretty dirty and warn from just being so low to the ground, would new lenses and bulbs help?

Thanks ahead of time and I am looking forward to my new ride. If anyone has any ideas or newbie improvements to recommend I'd appreciate everything you have to offer, I'm really not one to sit and let my vehicle remain too stock.

From what I recall on upgrading the fogs, you'd be better off buying an entirely new assembly.

People that have put the more powerful bulbs in there have melted the housings.

Welcome to the boards by the way

Thanks for the welcome, new to the board but not to forums or changing up my truck. :D

When you say an entire new assembly do you mean OEM or aftermarket?

Aftermarket. The stockers (evidently) don't like the bulbs that run hotter.

I am running Silverstars in my foggers and the light output isn't any better than factory. There's $50 down the drain.

Yeah, I did the same thing and didn't notice any difference. Oh Well, live and hopefully learn.:D

Not everything is worth modifying or upgrading for sure.

I have a question about the OEM fog light kit for an '06 truck: Does it come with a new front valence panel, or do you have to cut the holes for the lights in the original panel?

It is a relief that the 06 trucks do not require reprogramming.
