I am just curious. I know that most everyone would wonder why i would even think about it but i was thinking about converting my 04 silverado manual transfer 4x4 to electric. I wonder if this is even possible. I mean most things are pre wired from teh factory for all options and then hooked up if you want them. If the wiring were there all i would need is an electric transfer case motor and the switch ..... right?????? any ideas or suggestions from anyone in the know??? thanks

I would say probably not. On the 1500 series isn't electric shift only on option with Autotrac--which is a different transfer case entirely.

Anything is possible. It is only nuts and bolts and electrical gizmos but not sure why you would want to subject yourself to the most unreliable system offered on any GM truck. Pulling a lever doesn’t take that much effort or brain power. If you do it I wouldn’t mind having the manual shift assembly and linkages to swap into my Tahoe. Heck, maybe we should swap parts? The Hoe is still in warranty so I better hold off for now.

I totally agree with this. Although I haven't had any problems with my '05's electrics for 4WD, I did with my '03. It never stranded me out in the pasture, but could have. I had that stupid "SERVICE 4WD" message show up so often, and the switch was replaced repeatedly. I even serviced the switch module and resoldered the connections (a claim was made here that cold solder joints were the problem).

I really don't want any electric actuators, or switches for 4 wheel drive. I'm like Larry above, I would like to say that I'd be willing to trade the parts and outfitting to go manual.

And, as a side note, unrelated. I totally dislike the dual automatic climate control system. That thing reaks! My '03's manual dual climate control was easier to operate, simplier to maintain the temp. OK, that's out of my sytem...

ok well i guess i should explain. To be honest i dont really want the push button 4x4. I agree pull the lever. bam your in... i have always believed in K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid.....but the thing is i want to convert my interior. I have the jump seat in the middle and i want to go with the console that attatches to the dash. The shifter will be in teh way but i believe the best option is to just have a metal shop fab up a z shaped extension so that i can access the floor shifter from the side of teh console. easiest and cheapest and also easiest to put back to stock. heck i dont even think that would void my warrenty.

You can get the console that goes between the seats with out it connecting to the dash if that help. And I do mean the console for the bucket seats, Chevy makes a plate that goes in place of the piece that goes all the way to the dash.
