gas peddle problem?

I have a 2000 silverado and since I bought it a month ago I've noticed that when I take my foot completely off the throttle it sticks at that point. Meaning It takes some effort to push it back down past that sticking point. after you get by that point everything works fine. any one else notice this?

There was a TSB, # 00-06-04-007B, for Increased Accelerator Pedal Effort (Replace Throttle Body). I'm guessing it's still around. You may want to ask you dealer about it. It's covered under warranty, if your truck is still under warranty.

thanks I'll check into that. I wouldn't have thought that was a recall. this is a stupid question but what does the TSB stand for?

My truck does the same but I'm out of warranty.

TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin.

I just called the dealer and He told me about the recall and also mentioned that it could be caused by build up of material so they have to determin which it is before he will tell me that it's covered by warrantee. in any case even if it's not the throttle body then it will cost me $40 to have them clean it. It's worth the $40 to be able to step on the accelorator and not have to stand on it to get it to go. thanks again for all the info. this site is just the best thing since sliced bread!

If your truck is under warranty, they should cover whatever it is that is causing the problem, even just cleaning the build-up.

my 2000 z71 with the 5.3L V-8 was doing the same thing. out of warranty so i took a look for myself. turns out there was a black buildup inside the throttle body. a rag, some spray carb cleaner and about 20 minutes later the truck is good as new and the pedal doesn't stick anymore. i can give more details if anyone is interested.

just thought i would share some info on how to fix it yourself out of warranty (that is, if it is just buildup).

I asked him about that and he said that it wasn't covered because it was from normal whare or something like that. I'm thinking it is the thottle body fix because you really have to press down to get that thing to move. I'll find out tuesday I guess. How hard is it to get to the throttle bodies anyway?

2000LTZ71, I'd press your service manager a little on this, maybe.

I don't have the exact TSB anymore, but the original called for a cut-off Julian date on the throttle body, after which they were only to clean and lube them, rather than replace them. I seem to remember seeing a new TSB release (in the last 6 mos) that indicated they were supposed to replace all 1999 and 2000 TBs if customer complained about sticking pedal. I'd try to confirm this before confronting the dealer.

They did clean mine about a year ago (said I was not in the "affected" TBs), but now it is getting worse again. Course now I'm off warranty!

You might want to quiz him/her about this. And also agree that they should at least offer to clean it for free, if you're still under warranty. This applies to TSB repairs/replacements too.

I cleaned mine a couple months ago just cuz it was dirty. I didnt have the sticking problem, but now its starting to stick a little when all the way up.

I kinda doubt its cuz its dirty again since i recently cleaned it and it wasnt even doing it before that.

And thats with almost 60k miles on it before i cleaned it.

Its got to be getting dirty somewhere else, or something else is the problem.

I wonder how much a replacement TB costs.

You could probably just remove the rubber air inlet tube to the throttle body and spray some good carb/throttle body cleaner in there. I found that the Valvoline carb/intake/throttle body cleaner works wonders and quickly cleans any deposits, and works about twice as fast as Gumout spray cleaner for the same price. It wont hurt anything to spray it out. The inside of the throttle body can never be too clean, and if you do it yourself, you know it's done right.

I'd press them on this too. That's not something I would consider "normal or routine maintenance". Oil changes, radiator flushes and stuff like that would though.

Woyster: I'm interested in more details on how to clean this myself. If I can do it over the weekend and it works then I can cancel my appointment and not have to deal with the Serivec manager at all. If you have a step by step instruction that would be great, you can either put here for everyone or email me directly. Im not much of an engine guy so the more details the better. thanks again for the help.

Its very easy, and i wish i had my camera when i did it

Just remove the intake tube and youll have acces to your TB

I also removed the "VORTEC" cover.

The TB is only held on with 3 screws.

There are also 3 (i think ) hoses.

The two on the bottom are hardes to get to and supply coolant to the TB (might as well do the TB Bypass mod while your at it ), so have a rag ready and it helps if you have something to plug up the hoses to keep water from coming out (dont do this on a hot engine )

The throttle cable is fairly easy, but difficult to explain

There are also 2 electrical connctions that you must remove.

Thats about it, sounds kinda hard i guess, but its really easy.

If your not inclined to try this, just spray some carb cleaner in there.
