This sucks . . .

Well my truck has been up on lifts for the past week and something. My dad and I are re-doing the brakes. Finally we get it done last night. But yet another problem in the long list of them (mainly parts places giving us the wrong ones). We cant get the brakes to bleed. Air just keeps coming out. There are these two lines coming outta the brake fluid holder and one of em is just sucking air. We can get it to prime but if a little air gets in it looses its prime. We need some kinda power bleeder. Anyways my dad left for southern Oregon this morning and he isn't back till Friday (today is Wednesday) which leaves me with 0 transportation. I am really bored so I thought I would complain to you all.

Couple questions...did you replace the master cylinder (bolts to the firewall above steering shaft)?

If so it's possible that the new master cylinder is designed for a different length actuator shaft. This happened to a friend of mine, he absolutely couldn't get his brakes to bleed, even with all new parts in the system. Finally a mechanic friend of ours measured the shaft, it was too long, cut it to size, and everything worked great.

Also, are you bleeding them the old fashioned way (somebody pump the pedal, the other guy opens the bleeder screw) or with a hand vacuum pump? I have NEVER had good luck with the hand pump, and suggest the old reliable two-man method.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, though, I know how you feel, I've been there...

Nope we didn't replace the master cylinder. And we tried bleedin the brakes the old fasion way. My leg got awefully tired pumpin that pedal. I think I know what we need, its just a matter of finding someone who has one or a place that will rent it. I think my dad said it was some kinda power bleeder or something.
