1500 Z71's have the 4L60E. (1/2 ton "VortecMax" trucks have a 4L70E)

Personally I've never had any trouble with any of my 4L60's in any of my past trucks (I've had 7 previous trucks) Thats not saying guys don't have issues,I just never have,Of course I don't tow either which could make a big difference.

I also flush and change the fluid and filter every 25-30,000 miles.

And Yes,The 4L80E in the 2500/3500's w/the 6.0 are beefier,Of course they should be,being in a heavier truck thats probably going to see heavier towing and snow plowing than a 1/2 ton would.

The 4l60 E is an outgrowth of the old turbo 350 and is an excellent box. The 4l80E is stronger, turbo 400 outgrowth.

Do not feel bad about your 4l60E it is not a toy.

I have owned many 4l60 and 4l80 transmissions in hard working 1 ton vans. While the 80 is definitely stronger, I never saw any weakness in any of them. the main factor is keeping them cool which is true for any box.
