Random "service 4WD" messages

2 times last week and once this week, upon startup, I get service 4WD in the message center. When this happens all the lights on the 4x4 buttons are out and I can't engage 4x4. After turning off and then restarting all is normal and functions correct.

 

I have a laptop code scanner but it only shows P codes (powertrain) No SES light so no stored or pending codes.

 

I would like to get this fixed before it fails. Will the dealer be able to find any stored codes or will I need to wait to bring it in until the message appears.

Do a search and you'll find that this is a common problem. It is just the switcha that needs fixed. All you need to do is send the switch to modulemaster.com to get it fixed or by a new one from gmpartsdirect.com. Should be under a $40 fix.
