Top 3 PowerMod Bolt-ons

Hey fellas -

I wanted to create a thread the Top 3 Power Bolt-ons. If you had an extra $400-600 dollars what would you go buy for your truck. I would like to keep the responses to bolt-on additions for power and performance.

I would buy a cheapy intake from e-bay 40$, replace stock muffler with weld in with stock piping 80$, get a custom tune 160$, get an airraid mit 110$, That alnoe would gain you around what 20-30hp? The tune will have the most gains.

I'd be willing to put money on the fact that you could get 90% of those gains with just a good tune alone.

I think CAI kits are pretty much bunk on the newer trucks, and catback systems really don't do much either...Although they sure sound cool

From personal experience I'll say that the intake won't really do much performance wise, but it sure is louder. I did notice a difference with the exhaust though, not huge but noticeable.

The K&N cai only gains 7hp at the rear wheels according to their webpage on the 5.3. That's not a lot in gains. I think the Tune, exhaust, and intake all together made a huge difference when done all at once. I don't know about the hp gains but I'd say 25+

I put a Volant cold air kit on my truck. I cant say i noticed a significant change in horsepower, but I can tell you for certain it lets me use the horsepower I have alot sooner when you step on the gas. The better air flow lets you open up on the throttle much faster. I also gained almost 1 mpg.

I am new here, but wanted to chime in. Have not read every post under this one. I have recently purchased the granatelli spark plug wires for my 04 silverado. Granatelli claims 15 wrhp. After the install I noticed a crisper throttle response and a little more get up and go in the 3-4.5k area. I would have to give this product a thumbs up. They have less than one ohm of resistance which is just like up grading the electric system. More spark to the plugs.

Now they also did a Mass air flow meter and a cold air kit by granatelli. They claim 55 wrhp gains on an 05 5.3 silv. That's like a low boost super charger. I have not tried the other two components. But the plug wires are worth the money.
