My 1989 k 1500 with a 383 . The problem is this just happened the check gauge light came on this morning as I parked at work it was at idle theoil pressure dropped and the light flickered , it's a stock electric dash gauge . I live in the northeast

(ma.) and it's been really grimey on the roads salt etc. . the engine runs and idles fine I'm wondering if the sending unit is on the way out or if the wiring has got a break in it and loosing voltage?

any input or test I can do would be of great help, this has never happened B-4

thanks ML

I know this sounds lame, but have you check the amount of oil? I replaced the sending unit on my 88 K1500. It wasn't TOO hard. The new sensor was about $25 from advance auto.

... . . . ...

Thanks for the info,,, the oil level is fine, and pressure is right up there but it drops off after you drive it for a while ,, it's kind of like the gas gauge when it gets past 1/2 tank it drops and comes back, I might just put a mechnical gauge on it.

My other 89 did the same thing for a while

Another question how does an electric oil sensor actually work? does a small ammount of oil go into the small hole in bottom or is it voltage ,I tried to loosen up the old pressure sensor but it wouldn't budge and I decided not to go any futher in my driveway and leave it up to a mech. or spray Blaster on it and try again later?? I hate small problems the truck runs fine

Well problem solved , it was the sender it even started to leak oil ,I've spent 4 days spraying BLASTER on it to free it up FINALLY put the vise grips on the sender

you guys and gals know how tight it is up in that area pulled the old LINK out of my back pocket and WHAMMO broke it loose. I put new sender on and the thing is working like it just came off the assembly line . I must also say my wife of 25 yrs and my friends are happy also I get kind of freaky when my ride is messed up.

ML :sigh:
