Really enjoy the forums and consideration given to fellow gm truck owners.

 

On my second gm truck. Wanted(needed?) the silverado 2500hd, 4wd, ext cab.

Use the truck for work, lots of miles(56,000), sometimes tow 5th wheel(about 6000 lbs).

Got a clank shifting from forward to reverse. Clank is coming from rear output shaft on transfer case. Definite (.25 inch?) play of front drive line shaft(u-joint fine).

I think you probably have a worn slip yoke, which has been a frequent topic on this forum. Search google for "site:gm-trucks.com slip yoke" and you'll get a lot of page hits.

Have you had "service 4wd" light come on? Talked to a guy today, had the transfer case go out at 26K miles on a half ton.
