Trailblazer EXT side/door molding?

Recommended Posts

Hello all...

I have a 2006 TB Ext but came with surprisingly few options, including the lack of the side/door moldings that say "Trailblazer". Since in the last few weeks I've had a few nimrods slam their doors into my truck in parking lots, I've already gotten a few dings here and there. So I'd like to get ahold of a set to stick on. Does anyone know the official part numbers?

Also, do they come pre-painted? I notice that some vehicles have matching/painted moldings and others have that generic black plastic look. Mine TB is the sandstone/goldish color and I'd prefer it if they came prepainted to match, but I think the black would be fine too if I didn't have a choice.

Any/all help is appreciated! Thanks in advance! :D

Go back to the dealership and talk to the Sales Manager. Certain early 2006 TrailBlazer/EXT's were built without moldings, but the kits were sent to the dealers (albeit late). If there was a $100 MSRP credit on your window label for body-side molding delete, you are entitled to the moldings. HOWEVER, cost of installation is NOT included. You'll have to pay for installation or do it yourself. The moldings are molded-in color for 2006. No painting required. If your truck was ordered with PEG 1SA, moldings are not available from the factory on this package so the total expense (parts & labor) is yours.

P.S. TrailBlazer moldings haven't had the word "TrailBlazer" in them for several years. The current moldings are just plain moldings.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

BUILT WITHOUT MOLDINGS,

2006 TrailBlazer and TrailBlazer EXT built without body side moldings and received a $100 MSRP invoice credit. Chevrolet Marketing has set up painted VIN matched parts to be sent to dealers at no charge. No effort is required from the Dealer to receive these parts. The installation of these parts is not to be charged to GM. The delivery of these parts may not be completed until after 1/1/06. See Administrative Message CHM20050288 for complete details.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Note: Any installation charges are to be agreed to by the dealer and customer, and are NOT to be charged/claimed to General Motors. Since the body colored, body side molding kit, has been provided to the dealer at no charge, the dealer is also NOT to make any charges/claims to General Motors for the kit parts, material costs, handling amounts, nor any mark-up amounts.

In addition to the following information, please refer to GM Service Information Documents 167178 and 1671785, which will aid in the location and installation of the moldings. The photo references and instructions listed below were taken from GM Messenger number CHM20050288

Molding Location Summary

Using a flexible tape measure, like a tailor's tape that will conform to the shape of the door, measure and mark the tape guide points on the doors. Next stretch a piece of masking tape between the two points and set the top edge of the molding to the lower edge of the tape.

Specific Molding Location Instructions

• To identify the point on the rear door, measure 400 mm (600 mm for EXT) along the outer window belt seal from the forward edge of the sheet metal.

• Turn the tape perpendicular to the belt seal and measure 400 mm down the panel and mark that point. (See Photo 2)

• To identify the point on the front door measure 900 mm from the rear edge of the front door (at the B-pillar along the outer window belt seal) (See Photo 3)

• Turn the tape perpendicular to the belt seal and measure 373 mm down the panel and mark that point. (See Photo 4)

• Stretch masking tape as a guide between the 2 points marked on the doors with the bottom edge of the masking tape as the guide for the top edge of the molding. (See Photo 5)

• Ensure the painted body surface in the tape contact area is clean and dry.

• Warm body panel with a heat lamp or heat gun (if necessary) to a temperature between 18.8-41.1°C (66-100°F).

• Remove the tape liner from the adhesive tape.

Important: Do not touch the adhesive surface.

Important: For proper clearance when opening the doors, the front edge of the rear molding needs to be 4mm from the front edge of the rear door. The rear edge of the front molding needs to be 5mm from the rear edge of the front door (See Photo 2 and Photo 5)

• Ensure that the molding is aligned with the body panel. Press the door side molding to the body panel.

• Hand roll the door side molding to the body in order to ensure proper adhesion.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
