Chevy and the future?

I am a long time chevy owner. A real fan of the chevy small block and all of it's iterations, including, probably the best, truck six cylinder around, the 4300 Vortec, since the old style 292 I 6cylinder.

But I'm getting on in years, and I know the young guys, like my son and his buddies have different loyalties than I did.

Back in the late 60's when I was his age, and if you were a car nut, you were either a Chevy guy, a Ford guy or a MOPAR fan.

Nowadays, this isn't necessarily the case. A lotta young Honda and Toyota fans out there, but not so many Chevy , Ford or Dodge.

I don't have a crystal ball, but if I were to peer ahead, 20-25 years, I just don't know what the future holds for Chevy.

I'm just about as brand loyal as one gets, but in Dec./05, I was in a Toyota Tundra, V8 with the factory TRD dual exhausts and , I have to tell you, this is one nice vehicle.

Reliable and durable too, or so they tell me.

So, what do you think? Will Chevy go the way of one of my drivers, an Oldsmobile? Although the Chevy truck line ain't bad, the car line doesn't do it for me anymore.

I'm not 100% on the Chevy truck line either, with some of the boneheaded decisions, like dropping the Astro, instead of revising this useful, mid size vehicle.

Other stuff like, serious talk from Chevy, about deep sixing the 8.1 big block.

Also, the Sub is way overpriced , IMO, especially when you compare it to the full size Chevy Van, which happens to have the same engine, tranny, rear end, similar full frame, etc., except for a different body.

Yeah, I know it's marketing and squeezing out as much profit as you can, out of the sub, but I'm not pleased, the way things are going.

Is it just me, or are other long time chevy fans feeling this way? :seeya:

Chevy? HEH... General Motors will either be dead or a lesser entity, just as Sears is today. When I was young Sears, ruled the department store business. Montgomery Ward, its competitor, folded up. Nothing is permanent.

Ford is in the same category. In 20 years, China will be the economic super power, blowing away Japan and will overtake the Japanese and Korean auto offerings.

Well, I doubt that this is news to you :D ...But you know the saying..."The only thing that's constant is change".

Sometimes things get turned around. Heck, just look at what Chrysler did a few years back. They were really on the ropes there for a while. But they lived to build cars another day.

~OR~

Look at Montgomery Wards for an example of what happens when it goes the opposite way. :seeya:

I did my part to keep them afloat this last week...Now it's all of you guys turns :D

Wingnut, if you are going to "spam" every thread with your new purchase, at least you could have a nice picture in your signature!!

Back on topic, I fear for GM as a whole and for Chevrolet especially. Pontiac is for the younger crowd, Buick is for the older crowd, but the economy, bang for the buck buyer that Chevrolet has always had are buying Accords, Camry's and if they have a few bucks more, a Lexus or Acura. I too worry about Chevy. I think the truck/suv line and the Corvette is all that is holding it together.

Hopefully, they will make smart decisions in the future regarding product and design.

My crystal ball reveals two things happening: GM downsizes and looses Saturn, Buick, Pontiac and GMC brands or Toyota will buy out GM. I hoping both will occur.

toyota shares the vibe/matrix with GM, why is that? I dont think toyota will take gm though. Too risky, and they would be over expanding, which is what GM should have not done. I have faith in them to turn things around, look at chrysler.
