Biggest tires for a new Tahoe?

Hello All,

I'm new to your board although I've been lurking for a few months. I'm a Military guy stationed in Honduras about ready to transfer to Suriname. I will order a 2003 Tahoe LS to be sent there via Military Overseas Sales. Good prices plus no tax. Anyway....my question is: What are the biggest tires I can put on the 2003 Tahoe without major adjustments or rubbing? I've heard that some have BFG 285/70 or 75 R/16s on Silverados. Would that measure out the same for the Tahoe? There are lots of bad roads in Suriname plus the big ones just look cool.

Also, what colors have people been most happy with? For me the Black, Grey or Blue look great on the internet but there are no examples to see in Honduras. Will there be a good blue this year?

Yes you will be able to fit 285/75s on you Tahoe just fine on the stock wheels. If you want you can crank the torsion bars just a little bit to get maybe an extra inch (very easy to do), so you have a little added clearance. I have BFG Mud-Terrian 285/75/16 on my Silverado, and they are great.

As for color, I think they all look pretty good on the Tahoes. I have Sunset Metallic Orange, but they don't offer that color anymore on the Silverados, and they don't offer it on the Tahoes either. Black looks really good on the tahoes though, I guess just pick whatever you like best, you really can't go wrong.

Welcome to the site, and great job you guys are doing for us back home...

Go with a Black Tahoe, they are beautiful machines. Also I really like the Yokahama Geolander +2's that I have on my Silverado in the 285/75/16 size. check out my pictures to see what they look like. my link is at the bottom of my discription.

Man those tires look super. Is the ride any different with the 285/75/16's? Does milage suffer? I think I will go with Black after all. It really stands out. Do yo know if the front end of the Tahoe will look any different for 03?

No, they are leaving the Tahoe alone next year thankfully, but who knows what they will do in 2004. Hopefully they won't lose their minds again and make it like the new Silverado. Good choice on the color black, the Tahoes look great in that color .

Thanks, I really like the tires too. The ride of the truck is much better I think. it used to Float (for lack of a better word) before I put the wider tire on. maybe because I had 245's before the I bought the 285's. I haven't really noticed any mileage difference. I've taken some long drives and still get around 17 mpg. I haven't bought many AT tires before but these Yokahama's are so quiet, I couldn't tell the difference between these and stock tires. good luck, your Tahoe is going to look great.
