Gas engine EGT's

I know that EGT's are important to monitor on turbo diesel engines, I have an '03 6.0L 1500HD, that I tow about 7500Lbs, how important is it to monitor the EGT's on this gas motor? We monitor the trans. and the coolant, Why isnt there much concern with the exhaust gas getting too hot with gas rigs?

Gas engine egt is related to mixture and this is automatically controlled by your computer. don't sweat it.

Exactly..... gasoline engines have O2 sensors that make sure the mixture is in check all the time so there's no need for an EGT sensor.

My '86 K20 came from the factory with a 2-layer stainless steel exhaust system, full duals, without cats. The 2 layers were there presumably because the air injection at the exhaust ports caused a hot exhaust. There was a heat shield layer about 1/2" away from the actual exhaust pipe all the way from the header to the first muffler.

 

Things are not so complicated on my '05 2500HD. Single layer, and I don't know if it's stainless steel.

 

I wonder when I run for a long time at full throttle if I can get the exhaust header or pipes hot enough to cause any problem.

My understanding is that the exhaust systems on our 05's are SS back to but not including the muffler. The rest is aluminized I believe.
