I have a 98 S-10, 2.2L Automatic with 54,000 mile. It developed a oil leak this spring. I can't tell where its coming from but I've heard they have had problems with the dip stick o-rings. It drips right above the exhaust crossover pipe. I guess I'm wondering if it might be a rear main seal or look at the o-ring first. It looks like a major pain to even get to the dipstick but better than the rear main which I would guess would require removing the engine. Any thoughts or help? :chevy:

Shampoo the engine and then run it for a while to see if you can see where the fresh oil is coming from. the valve covers on them can leak from time to time, but don't over tighten them or you will fracture the cover. also check the oil pan bolts to see if they are still tight.

I'm going to put the o-ring in this week and see if that takes care of it. Does anyone know why the truck sounds like a diesel. I don't know if the valves need set or what but it sounds terrable at idle.
