Goodyear OEM Sidewall Defect

Recommended Posts

Have had my Duramax/Dually for a year now and have 35 000 km's on the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S OEM's. Pressures are checked regularly as we do haul horses a fair bit. The driver side front tire developed a large football size bulge and the passenger side showed a defect as well. These were replaced under warranty, but have others had these kind of problems?

Otherwise it has been a great truck and fantastic for towing through the mountains!

I will never buy Goodyear tires.

Back in the early '70's, Goodyear used its market position to prevent Americans from being able to purchase radial tires. It took Sears and Michelin to override Goodyear's anti competitive actions. Read this guy's rant, he knows the story...

I can't say it enough. Goodyear = evil; Michelin = good. All others = OK.

I haven't used Wranglers for three or four years, before which I went through three or four sets on different vehicles. Happy enough with them but in almost all cases (pun intended) the steel ply would seperate long before the tread was gone. Never had the bulge but you could tell by the shimmy starting in the truck it was time to go for another set, usually get a small rebate.

Since then it is nothing but Michelins (LTX for my 2500HD)

I'm impressed they replaced the tire with that many minles on it under warranty. Any time I have tried to have a tire replaced because of a sidewall bulge they say it is caused by driver error (pinching the sidewall by rubbing a curb or other high object) and is not covered by any warranty.

Good for you.
