305/70/16 tire question

I know it has been a while since I have been here, but I have some questions for the crew.

OK the background. The truck is a 03 1500 HD Crew. When I bought it it had the wussy street tires on it 245/75/16 (I think). They were on it for about 900 miles before they were replaced with 285/75/16 BFGoodrich All Terrain TA. Now it has almost 70,000 miles and will need replacing soon. I have actually more than 70k on them because I didn't recalibrate the speedo. The truck looks so much better with the bigger tires, but I am thinking I want something more aggressive looking. I like the Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. Size 305/70/16 is about the same diameter as the 285/75/16. I know I will need wider wheels, the 285s on factory HD wheels are pushing it. I think they are 6.5" wide. The other tires that cought my eye are Pro Comp mud terrain tires in 305/70/16 again.

What are your experiences with these tires? Road noise, wear & so on.

Thanks,

Scot

The MT Baja Claws are a pretty good tire. I am running them right now (35x12.50r17) and I like them. Make sure you get the Baja Claw Radials-the bias ply tires are much softer and will wear out alot quicker. I have put about 10K miles on mine and they went from 21/32 to 17/32. I also make sure and rotate them every oil change.

Get The Baja Claws. Ive tried almost every off-road tire and they are the best you can get. Like a paddle tire in the sand, like a bogger in the mud and they cant be beat on the rocks. I had 35x12.50's and they lasted me about 3 years, i was surprised. And that is with many many burnouts and rock crawling every week. They are the best desert tires ever. Just watch out for wet highways, did a 360 when i hit a big puddle on a 4 lane road, WITH TRAFFIC!!

had them on my hd and got about 28000 miles on them(rotated often). not to loud till they wear down then roar pretty good.I now have the mickey mtx radials with 10000 miles and they still look like the day i got them. these are a lot quieter and ride is better. next i'm trying the dick cepeck fc II.

Yeah, We have some MTX's on or Ford F250 460ci. Those are great tires too and are more streetable than the claws. They do great in the sand. I was amazed when our FORD pulled our heavy trailer up a sandy hill at the lake. Imagine what they could do on a CHEVY!!
