Camper Wiring Package

Recommended Posts

Hi first post so bear with me. I just bought a 1500HD Quadrasteer and am trying to get my pickup camper and boat hooked up to it. I have a 2 part question.

1) I am trying to get the accessory power pin on my 7 pin factory connector powered up for the camper. In reveiwing a few related posts it appears that I may need to put a special fuse in the Stud #2 location in my under hood fuse block. Correct? Any final word on what fuse I need size and type for this? It appears that this will then work for electric brakes as well on trailers equiped as such.

2) I also want to wire for my boat (4 flat) so that I can run boat lights and camper lights\accs at the same time. Should I tap into something OR my owners manual talkes about a Camper/Fifth-Wheel Trailer Wiring Package. I do not see the pig tail between the cab and box nor do I see it on the rear frame. Is this something that can be purchased and added on easily with factory ready plug-in harnesses? If so can anyone provide sites or part numbers (Genuine GM or otherwise?)

Thanks!

First off,Welcome aboard

Secondly,Onto your questions...

The fuse you need to put in actually goes into Stud#1 in the underhood fuse box,There should be a "dummy" fuse in there now,The dummy fuse is red plastic and has "B+" stamped on it,Remove the dummy fuse and replace it with a 40amp J-case fuse.

On the Camper/5th-Wheel Wiring Harness Pkg.,This is an option from GM,RPO Option code UY2,If you do not see anything between your cab and bed then you do not have this option.

You can add it and I have sold a couple of these harness's to guys that wanted to add it,It is part number 15072794 and has a list price of $118.29

From what they told me its not too easy to install due to clearance issues of the bed and frame,One guy told me he unbolted his bed and lifted it up a little bit for clearance.

Another way would be to make your own adapter. Buy a 7 blade trailer plug and wire in a four way flat for the trailer and whatever else you need for the camper. Then when you buy a bigger truck you are all wired up.

I had the same problem, I ended up just using the "multi-tow" adapter from Hoppy

Look up "hopkins 40955" in google to see it...it plugs into the harness on the rear and has a 4 pin and a 7 blade...works great. But you have to construct a long wire that runs from the camper to the back of the truck. Also, if you use the truck to power the camper they say you should run the camper wiring directly from the battery, but all I use mine for is lights and it works perfectly. Cost me $30.

Good Luck!

Great tips thanks! I think I may try the adapter method for now. I mostly need the electrical feed to run a small exhaust fan for the fridge while it runs on propane mode. And I've already got a long wire to get to the front of the camper. The four flat works for my small boat for now.

I'm considering just wiring another 7 blad plugin beside the factory one. This way I can run the camper accessories and still have another 7 blade to plug in a larger boat trailer that has electric brakes. Would this be wise\unwise? It shoudl be the same principal as buying the factory 5th wheel kit right?

Thanks again!

Should work perfectly...those fridge fans don't use much power so you shouldn't blow any fuses...I haven't.

Good luck!
