Fuel Problem?

I have a 2000 2wd regular cab silverado with the 5.3 and 47,000 miles. Here are the symptoms I am experiencing: When ever the motor is cold there is a "clicking" noice that occurs when I turn the truck to run. It will click for a couple of seconds and then the fuel pump does it's thing for a few seconds and then when I turn it over sometimes it will start right up and other times it will struggle, like its not getting fuel or something. I changed the fuel filter thinking that would be a good place to start and the truck runs better but it still makes the noice.

 

However, when ever the motor is warm it runs perfect, ie. turn the key over and the fuel pump goes through its cycle for a couple of seconds and then it starts up fine, no "clicking" noice.

 

Any thoughts on what this could be? Do I have a bad fuel pump already? I was also reading about the fuel pump regulator, could it be that?

Actually, it sounds like a bad battery.  Starter motor clicking when the battery is cold and not holding a good charge, but when you stop and start with the engine still warm, the alternator has managed to charge the battery up a bit more for a brief period.  Really tough to guess on this one though.  Is the battery 2 years old or older?

That was my first thought as well, something with the battery or alternator.  To answer your question, the battery is 2 years old but I had both the battery and alternator tested and they were fine.  

 

Any other thoughts?

Are you able to hear where the clicking is coming from?  (Front, Back, ?)

Do the needles on the gauge jump in chorus with the clicking?  (specifically the charge gauge)
