1500 5th wheel trailering

I'm in the market for a new gm truck and I am deciding between a 1500 and a 2500 ext. cab 4x4. I will be pulling a 5th wheel camper in the future. The 2500 may be overkill, but I dont want to ruin anything on a 1500. Anybody has experience with pulling a 5th wheel trailer with a 1500?

The 2500 won't be overkill, the pin weight of the fv'er will probably overload the GVWR of the 1500.

You'll feel more comfortable towing with a 1500HD or a 2500HD, hands down.

Amen to that! 1500HD's kick ass. Nice n comfy. :D And it isnt as big as the 2500, so you can still be able to park it in the compact spot to agervate people! :)

I have pulled a 6,000# 5'er over 12,000 miles with my '02 GMC 1500 w/towing package. The pin weight rating is 1,500 #'s for a 5'er. However, the truck squatted when hooked-up and I added air-bag lifts to stabilize the truck.

If I had it to do over again, I would DEFINITELY go with the 2500, or the 1500HD! Can't have too much truck.
