2003 2500HD Duramax steering

Hello People

I have a 2003 crew cab short box 4x4 with the Duramax engine. The problem I am having is when stopped or moving slow, turning all the way to one side, the steering gets stiff near the end of its travel.

 

I took it into the dealership and they diagnosed a leaking valve in the steering box. They changed the steering box and said it was due to the aftermarket wheels and tires.(LT265/75/16) The problem still persisted after the new box was installed, so I changed the tires back to the originals one it came with.(LT245/75/16) The problem didn't go away.

 

Back at the dealership and running out of warrenty very quickly, they phoned GM and their answer was that it is an engineering design flaw and there is not much they can do. They did order a valve for the pump to increase the flow during slow speeds. Has anyone with a diesel experience this problem? It is most noticable when backing the boat into the garage or parellel parking. Any input would be appriciated.
