update 6 liter using oil

I had a post last week about my 2000 GMC 6 liter using oil. I found out this weekend that the oil is going in the cooling system.. There is no antifreeze in the oil whatsoever and it runs great. I suspect a bad engine oil cooler in the radiator.outherwise i would think there should be other issues. The leakage is quite severe as it used a half liter of oil in 90 kilometers.. Any thoughts on this??? I sure hope i dont need to tear engine down.. It only has 48000 kilometers on it .. Thanks for any input. Bullyus

Your engine has an engine oil cooler? be sure it is not the transmission cooler that you are talking about. It could have an engine oil cooler.

 

If you confirm that it has an engine oil cooler, it is perfectly safe to bypass the cooler by hooking the inlet and outlet hoses together with appropriate fittings to test. just don't load the engine severely during the test.

 

I had a trailer towing 454 with an oil cooler mounted on the hot side of the radiator. it leaked and we permenantly bypassed it with no problems for the next 50,000 miles.

 

I do recommend that you do a correct repair after the test however.

I pulled out the rad this morning and sent it to a rad shop for testing. They found the engine oil cooler leaked with just 5 lbs of pressure. This was great news to be as this is much better than an engine problem. Thanks again for your input.. Bullyus
