1997 Silverado Rear Speaker Removal

Hi,

I just removed my rear speakers and this is how I did it. I heard it is a pain to do and I hope this helps someone someday.

To get the rear interior trim off you will have to remove the rear seat first. There is a plastic pin holding on the plastic guards where the bolts for the seat are located. Simply pry these pins with a dull knife or a blade screwdriver. They have no threads. Take out the seat after removing the two bolts located one on each end. Next, remove the wide piece of plastic paneling that runs behind the back seat. Pull the lower edge first until all snaps are free then work the panel upwards so that the upper clips are also free. Next, remove the panel that is above the rear glass on the roof. Start by pulling the panel near the middle of its length then work towards the ends. This panel must bend down in the center in order to shorten the panel's length and clear the plastic tabs located on each end underneath the side panels. There are 2 screws under the ashtray, and then the armrest will come off. There are 2 screws behind it, plus more at the bottom of the panel. After you remove all the screws, pull the panel out; it has several clips holding it on. Take the screw out of the cloths hanger tab, it is held on only by clips now. Pull the bottom out first. Next, pull the thin edge of the side panels that overlaps the panel over the edge of the front doors. Keep pulling in spots where you feel pressure on the side panels. The clips should let free if you pull straight outwards. The only clips I broke were on the piece on the roof. Even though I could not glue them back on, it hasn't affected the panel after I put everything back together.

I want to include pictures of all the clip locations, so I will try find a way to do so. Otherwise, e-mail me and I will send you a compressed folder of all the pictures you will need to see.

Hope this helps.
