Getting new tires tomorrow

Well guys, I set up an appointment tomorrow to get Michelin LTX M/S tires put on my 2000 Silverado ECSB Z-71 w/5.3 and 4.10 rear end. I'll be moving up from the Firestone Steeltex 245/75R/16's to 265/75R16's. I got a quote of $190 per tire with lifetime mouting and balancing, valve stems etc. He said I should be out in less than an hour. Think I'm getting a fair deal?

PS I think it they should work well with the monroe reflex shocks I put on.

Right, and I've looked on Tirerack and 1010tires, but this includes mounting and balancing etc. I think this works out pretty well. Plus this if for LT rated tires load range C.

His price includes the mount/balance, and the lifetime balance package.

You might save a dollar or two by buying the tires direct and paying an hour labor at a stealer or elsewhere for the mount and balance, but it would be a lot more trouble.

In any case, you're going to LOVE those Michelins. I went to a set of LTX M/S on my '91 from a crappy set of Uniroyal Tiger Paws... went from undrivable in rain to nearly unskiddable. Then I moved up to my '04. With crappy Goodyears. For the first few months, I looked like this driving in rain: . Used to it now, but I can't wait to get another set of Michelins! Not much left on these Goodyears after 46k!

Just to add...I'm going to this place by a fellow guy at work's recommendation. He says they are always very accomodating, and when they say the truck is done..it's done. Plus, there's no mileage restrictions on the rotate and balancing, he takes his in every few months or so, no questions asked. I kinda feel I should support a store like that, (customer service in this day and age? c'mon!) I'll report tomorrow...

Yeah I upgraded my Firestone steeltex AT deathtraps to ltx m/s 265's at discount tire, and I think it was like $158 a tire I paid and got lifetime rotation, hazard warrenty, balancing etc.

I just went from the 245 set up to the optional 265. Big difference in ride with the new good years. I need an allignment after the new tires.

I got the tires today, man are they quiet! I have to give it a little more gas to accelerate because of the bigger size, but not much. I talked to the dealer today and he said they could easily reprogram the PCM and Brakes for about $40. He knew what I was talking about, a far as stepping up to a bigger tire, which was refreshing.

The only concern I have now, is the fact that now that I have bigger tires, I can see a difference on the bumper clearance between the two front tires. My truck had a front end mishap before I bought it according to carfax, and everything looked fine, but now I only have about 1.5" clearance on the drivers side front tire to the bumper trim. The other side is about 3". I'm figuring it may just be bumper adjustment, so I 'll have them look at it when I take it in for the PCM/ABS reprogram.

They had a $5 off any tire special so I got the LT 265/75R/16's for $185 each with new valve stem, mounted, balanced with lifetime rotation for $185 each...not too bad in my book!

My only concern that may or may not be related is I switched from the stock platinum plugs to the iridiums with a gap of .060 vs. 040 whenI first bought the truck and now it seems a bit doggy. It seems the truck has less power with the .040 gap. Should I switch back to the platinums?

now I only have about 1.5" clearance on the drivers side front tire to the bumper trim. The other side is about 3". I'm figuring it may just be bumper adjustment, so I 'll have them look at it when I take it in for the PCM/ABS reprogram.

Shoot, don't pay 'em for it, wack that s**t with a wooden mallet!

Tell me more about the difference in accelerating. I've been debating going to 285's from my 245's, but I calculated that it would be the gearing equivalent of going from my 3.73 to a 3.46.. pretty big step!
