Received my speed grille -- dangit!

Hey all,

Went to install my hotly-anticipated speed grille that I received the other day, but, sadly, I'm going to be sending this one back.

First, on the lower one, it looked as though it had been dragged over a rough surface which really roughed up the finish in some areas.  But more importantly, on both of them (though it's more noticeable on the top insert), the screen wasn't cut & crimped perfectly square.  When you look at it, the row of holes all slope down hill.  For instance, the first full hole that is exposed at the top left side of the insert becomes the second hole from the top at the right side of the grille.  Since the things weren't bent along the same row of holes, the holes go down to the right gradually across the insert.

I'm sure I'm not explaning this well.  But, it'd be like if you took a sheet of lined paper, turned the sheet slightly askew, then cut a square out of it.  If you hold that square level, the lines would slant down to one side, and would no longer be horizontal.  That's the deal with these inserts.

Anyone else ever get grilles that were this way?

I certainly want another set.  I'm not disappointed with the company or anything -- but I WILL be if the second set comes this way, too.

Thanks.  Just thought I'd share.

I installed a speed grill on my Silverado about a year ago. The only problem that I had was that each piece of the grill had a label indicating the top and bottom of the piece. One of them was mis-labeled but it was apparent that it was wrong. After I turned it over the installation was very easy.

Yes, it appears that the installation [of a correct one] is going to be quite easy.  In fact, I don't see any reason to remove the existing grille shell from the truck to do the installation.  And, the directs are pretty good.

But, I simply don't want to install something that does look right.  I'm hoping that someone at the distribution place can check the item before it's shipped to me to make sure it's ok.

I'm sure this was a fluke thing. The next one will probably be ok.

About removing the factory grill, You don't have to but I didn't like being able to see it behind the speed grill. I ended up cutting it out and I liked the way it looked much better.

I installed the Street Scene Speed Grille with no problems. What brand did you go with? :yingyang:

It was a Street Scene speed grille.

Again, I don't forsee having much of a problem with the installation.  Rather, the grille has to be sent back because the grilles, themselves, weren't bent along a uniform line.

I spoke with the gal from where I ordered them, and they're getting a new set in the mail to me asap.  They'll be sending a return slip for me to return the one that's not right.

Oh well.  I'd rather wait and have it right then have it on the trunck wrong, now.  :)
