SES Light code P0440

My fathers 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3L has been throwing the following code:

 

P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction

 

Any ideas on where to start??

Check the gas cap, if it's not sealing and has the slighest leak you will get this code.

Replace your purge valve solenoid on top of the intake manifold. That'll fix it.

Gas cap did not work. He changed two purge valves, one in engine compartment and on near the frame rail by the fuel tank. Well let you know if it works.

I am getting the same code on a 03 5.3L gas cap is good are the purge valves located in the same place????

Change just the purge valve solenoid on top of the intake manifold first. Most of the time that will fix the problem. I guess you could try to clean it with a little chem tool or something. It's not recomeneded, but if you're gonna change it anyway what the hell, right? It's a dealer only item, but I only paid about US$20.00 for it. It is easy to change so even a novice DIY'er should have no problem.
