05 GMC Transfer Case

Took my 05 GMC Crew cab Z71 to the dealer today. In 4wd it makes a significant grinding sound to which the dealer attributes it to some internal clutches in the transfercase and they are going to order a 'shim kit' for it. My friend has an identical truck with the exact same problem. 4wd is rarely used and neither truck as been abused, both are sitting at 22k. Has anyone heard of this type of repair on such a new truck?

My 05 with the manual shift transfer case made a grinding noise on acceleration that could be changed by wiggling the shift lever. The dealership said the springs which hold the lever were not tight enough and added an extra one on to help. It made the noise considerably better, but you can still here it sometimes.

Ours are push button 4wd. My friend's has been in the shop for over two weeks waiting for parts.
