Mirror Cap Removal

I did a search and couldn't find anything. I bought some chrome mirror caps to put on my '04.

 

Is there any special trick to pulling off the old ones? I was gonna wedge a flat head screw driver in there and just pull the black plastic ones off. I just wanna double check this before I break something. Thanks.

Update: I was able to pry with a crew driver and in addition to the clips there is some adhesive tape spread around the inside.

 

All of the tape stuck to the mirror assembly not the cap. I was then able to put the new chrome caps on and it looks great

 

I would recommend the chrome caps from Performance Products. I looked on Ebay but they only had the stick on kind. These have the clips.

The OEM ones from GM come with detailed instructions on houw to remove and replace and are only 49 for a pair

I use a butter knife as screwdrivers may be too thick.

 

Next time, replace the two-way tape for some cheap insurance
