Are all Nerf Bars created equal?

I'm in the market for some nerf bars so my wife doesn't have such a hard time getting into my 06 2500HD 4x4. We're talking the stainless kind since we get a lot of road salt in the winter. I'm confused by the variety of stainless steel bars out there. Each says their type of stainless is best, or they are thicker than the others. Most are 3 inch diameter, but Grizzly is 3.5 inches which might look better on a large pickup.

 

Have any of you had a really good or really bad experience with any particular brand? Does one mount more easily or more securely? Is it safe to assume that the mounting hardware is also stainless if the bars are?

I wouldn't assume that the mounting hardware is stainless as well as the bars. I'd suggest calling around and seeing what any auto accessory places in your area say about the different kinds.

 

That said, my father-in-law (soon to be, anyway) picked me up a set as an early birthday present, but because of where they came from they didn't come with any mounting hardware. Not a problem...but let's just say that I won't be keeping these nerf bars when/if I ever get rid of my truck...Welders FTW!!!

NASTA nerf bars are 3" round 304 stainless steel 16 gauge tube and their brackets, washers and bolts are stainless steel also.

 

I've had mine 2 years and they still look great.

They are about as close to the truck as possible and still be able to get a good step to get in.

trust me I can say all are not the same... why you ask I know this. I sell them for a living. well I should restate that, I sell part at the worlds speed shop, " ------ racing". We sell our fair share of nerf bars and you get what you pay for. Take a look at Smittybuilt they are now in chap. 11 ... just my .02

I would go with either the Go Industries Nerf Bars which a friend of mine has or you could go with an off brand called Truck Tec. I have the Truck Tec bars and I love them, picked them up pretty cheap to. I bought mine at realtruck.com. I called them and they suggested truck tec so I went with those. I looked at the Putco Boss bars too. Those hummers are 4 inches 304 stainless!!! A little out of my price range but thats what I really wanted check out www.realtruck.com those guys were great to work with.
