Short Trips/oil type and changes

I have a 07 Silverado V8. I only put on about 15 miles per day, because I live so close to work. I understand that short trips are not good for the engine. I have 650 miles on it and will change it around 1000. Do you think a Synthetic oil would be better for my use?--short trips and all?---I wonder if Chevy recommends it??.

I was thinking of Valvoline Syn. 5/30.
