Max tire size on stock setup?

I have a stock 02 sierra 2500HD 4x4 which came with 245s on 16"rims. When i wore those out i got some BFG A/Ts (265/75R16 i believe) which are about 31.5 inches in total diameter. These are about done and im looking for something slightly larger and more aggressive. I was wondering if anyone knew the maximum diameter tire i can put on this truck with little or no trimming.

I've seen some charts which seem to imply i would need a 3" lift to fit anything larger than 30" but since i have larger tires than that right now and still have clearance, i obviously can not go by these charts.

I broke out a tape measure and did some quick figuring and it looks like i have a good 2" around the whole tire before it would start to rub so im thinking i would be pretty safe with a 33" tire. Has anyone tried 33's on this truck? I'd hate to get them and have them rub like crazy and i'd ilke to avoid a lift if possible. I assume if it rubs slightly i could possibly do a 1 notch tbar crank to get the clearance but i'd rather not mess with the suspension.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

285/75R16 on stock wheels or 305/70R16 on aftermarket. This with some minor trimming on the front dam is what most seem to be getting.

Thanks. 305/70R16 appears to be a 33" overall diameter and thats what i was planning on getting so this should work out pretty well. I dont mind trimming the air dam or anything like that but i really wanted to avoid any type of lift.

Thanks again.

Good info....why in the world did GM put the stock rim with a width of 6.5"??? I put 285s on my pickup and you can see some spots around the rim where the tire appears to be too big and ripples a bit on the sidewall? What aftermarket rims would anyone recommend if I were to increase to a 16x7 or 16x8? Thanks.

Stocks are a 6.5?? Really? I thought mine were 7.5. Anyways, i've just gone to a 18x9 american racing but im sure everyone will have their own opinion. I just cant see sticking with a 16" rim when you got so much tire to work with.
