Tranny ID Number

I have a 1999 silverado 4.3 v6, manual transmission. I am trying to find out which tranny I have so that I can use the approved fluid when I change it out. My Chilton's says the model number is on the left side of the bell housing, and I have looked all over both sides and found nothing! (the owners manual lists only two transmissions, one with low gear the other without, but I don't know what my gear ratios are, so that doesn't help.) BTW the truck is totally stock, and I still have the window sticker, but its not help either. There is a serial number on the side of the bell housing, but it does not correspond to the transmission model numbers, as far as I can tell.

What do I do now? Where do I look? Oh yeah, the drain and fill plugs are 17mm hex, and are on the passenger side, if that helps.

Look at the white label in the glove box. The option codes are in alphabetical order and you're looking for one that starts with an "M". I'm not sure of the exact option codes for manual trannys, as we don't see many of those here, but you probably won't have more than one or two codes that start with "M".
