power steering fluid question

Posted

I just finished doing a trans fluid change and have some royal purple synthetic dextron 3 fluid left over.

My power steering has been making a creaking noise lately and has 70000 miles without any service. Do you think it would be ok to drain/flush the power steering fluid and replace with the royal purple atf?

I remember years ago i was told atf could be used in power steering but i have no idea if that still works for todays vehicles.

Thanks, Steven.

Some people still use ATF in the PS pump but we do not recommend it. It will work but is not designed for the PS pump.

I would suggest a good quality fluid and add a bottle of Lubegard P/S fluid additive. Lubegard is a wonderful product and used by many professional trans shops and techs.
