Changing tire size 2500

I just got a new 06 GMC 2500 4x4 this week-end and want to change the tires from the stock 245s to 265s. A friend of mine ghanged his Chevy 2500 to the same and went to a Chevy dealer to have them reset the computer for the larger tires. Quess what, they told him that your not able to adjust it for anything larger than stock size. Is this true or just a brush off. I had it done to a then new 98 Z71 , it had 245s I wore them out then got 265s and the dealer I bought the truck from changed the computer for me. Has anyone else run into this kind of thing before. Thanks

I don't think you need to worry about the computer. I changed out the 245's on my 02 2500 Suburban to 265's and had no problem with the speedo. You should be OK and I think the dealer is giving you a line. When I changed my tires my dealer told me not to worry about it as there was not that signifacant of a size change to make a difference.

The dealer is not supposed to adjust speedo for large tires than stock. Google miata tire calculator and it will calculate how far your speedo will be off.

 

I went 265 to 285 and it was off about 4%

Well, I never noticed a difference with mine. Maybe there wasn't that much of a change.

There is a difference of about 3% or 3mph. The dealer will recalibrate also; mine wanted $64, I said no thanks, that's half way to a jesse tune.

On my 2000 K1500, the stock tire size is 245 and the "optional" size was 265. I upgraded to the 265's and asked the dealer about the reprogramming, and said no problem. Although the 265's aren't "Stock" they were an option, and should be okay to have the dealer update you. If you have them do it, don't forget, it's not just for the spedometer, but a separate ABS reprogram is needed too. He didn't know the cost off the top of his head, but said about $50.

 

BTW, I love my Michelin LTX M/S tires!

Thanks for the replies I see what another dealer says. I`m curious about this wait4me thing what is it and where do you get one, and what does it do? Also what is the cost?????

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.

      2026 6.6 L5P oil cooler leaking oil at 4,000 miles

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?

      Seems to be Missing a lot of Updates

      So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
