Engine in 46 Chev 1 1/2 Ton?

Does anyone have any experience with putting new engines in 41-46 HD Chev's? I have a 46 1 1/2 ton that I want to modernize for pulling a 32+ foot car trailer. Apparently you can fit a Vortec 6000 in without too much trouble. Any ideas? I am wanting to stay away from deisel engines to keep the cost down since I will not likely get enough use out of it to offset the higher cost.

I'm sure that just about any engine would fit. I'll look for conversion kits, I don't know of any right off.

I would, however change your choice of engines. In order to run a factory Vortec 6.0, you are going to need all the computer and engine management data currently on a new truck.  H E A D A C H E  !!

I suggest buying a crate or building a  high torque small or big block(big block will be better for hauling a race car) and using an aftermarket TBI, such as the Holley.

This would give you more adjustability and be much easier on the wallet.

Was thinking about getting a complete truck from a wrecker or SGI (provincial insurance company). Preferably one that had been involved in a rollover and written off. It wouldn't cost too much as opposed to buying a crate engine, and then I would have everything needed and hopefully wouldn't have to replace too much due to damage.

My dad and I have looked at getting a tractor engine and putting in there, tons of torque, lots of power, but then we run into size and weight issues. We have talked to guys who have done that. But it likely wouldn't work out that well.
